Artie Garcia

Florian Art Garcia was born and raised in Santa Fe. He spent summers with his maternal grandmother in the northern New Mexico town of Alcalde learning the true meaning of community where friends and neighbors took care of one another. Artie turned these lessons into a personal commitment to service and giving back to his own community. A liberal arts education in the humanities and business from the College of Santa Fe prepared him for a prosperous career in banking both locally as well as in Los Angeles and Seattle. His customer service and financial background eventually led him to a period where he utilized his administrative skills to manage and grow a number of successful medical practices. At the same time he set out to serve his community as a volunteer on many important non-profit social service agencies including American Cancer Society and Santa Fe Crimestoppers. When he lost some close friends to AIDS, Artie dedicated himself to the cause by founding and serving as treasurer of People of Color AIDS Foundation, serving as vice-president of New Mexico AIDS Services, and ultimately as president of Santa Fe Cares, helping to transform it into a community foundation for AIDS and while establishing its endowment. Artie's volunteer involvement has also included service on the boards of Santa Fe Opera Guild, Desert Chorale, Santa Fe Rotary Foundation, and Capital City Business and Professional Women and College of Santa Fe. Currently Artie serves on the Board of Directors of the Santa Fe Community Foundation and the Gay and Lesbian Community Funding Partnership.
